IT'S A GOOD TIME FOR ME TO BE THANKFUL
Other Stuff As I sit here one week from the day when I will celebrate three score and ten years of life, I have occasion to ponder a number of things for which I am and have been for years, most thankful. There were so many good things which happened in my early life, it would be difficult to focus on just a few. Let it suffice to say I thank God for Roy and Cleo Van Valkenburg (aka "Jean" and "Sadie") the wonderful parents who brought me into this world. Also for my sister Kay, who now serves as a sounding board for some of my outlandish ideas, but like all "little sisters" she was my pal, my sparing partner and from time to time, a pest in our early years. Now that our parents are gone, Kay and I often reminisce with fond memories about the "good old days" during which the foundations of our lives were formed. While we now live over 1,000 miles apart, we are able to stay in frequent touch, thanks to computers and telephones.

ONE FLAW IN WOMEN
Other Stuff This gem was sent to me by one of my favorite women - my aunt Priscilla. I'm posting it on this website in honor of her, my daughters, their Mom, our Granddaughters, my own Mom, the women who came before her in my family and last, but not least, my one and only sister. Also, as a very small token of appreciation to "Lady Elaine" for putting up with me for the last 50 years.

GO BANANAS - B - A - N - A - N - A - S
Other Stuff A number of years back when my youngest daughter Kelli was the band president at Lincoln East High School, the kids made up their own goofy cheer. "Go Bananas - B-A-N-A-N-A-S." Now Kelli, a Registered Nurse at the Medical Center at Omaha, can cheer on her patients with the same words the East High Band shouted at football games. After reading this, you'll never look at a banana in the same way again. A new friend of mine, Kelly Given, a former state legislator from West Virginia furnished this article and asked that I share it with you, my readers, so here it is. If anyone knows the original source, let me know so I can give a proper attribution. In any case, here's to your good health.

MANY USES FOR WD-40 YOU PROBABLY DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT
Other Stuff I get many contributions of good stuff to know as well as the "send to everyone on your list or your legs will fall off" junk, but on occasion, I get one that has enough merit to share with the good people who read the articles posted on this web site. This is one of those. Nearly every guy, for one reason or another, has purchased and used WD-40 to loosen rusty bolts or lubricate various things. Here is a bit of information I found to be interesting and informative which I now share with you. Since I have not tried out all of the "alleged" good uses to determine safety and suitability, and to keep some greedy lawyer from attacking me if WD-40 melts, mars, screws up any of your property or in any other way disfigures you or any of your things (no.....don't go down that road guys), use this information and the product at your own risk.

OUT OF THE MOUTH OF BABES
Other Stuff This message is for all parents of children who have pets. It was supplied to me by a good friend who just happens to be - a veterinarian. It shows we should never underestimate the depth of thought of children. The wisdom of a child is occasionally amazing.

IS IT A STROKE? IS IT A HEART ATTACK?
Other Stuff Those of us who live or travel in rural America where emergency medical help might be miles and many minutes away, the information contained in this article might just allow you to save your own or someone else's life. Read on

THE YELLOW SHIRT
Other Stuff This gem was supplied to me by my lovely young niece Kim. She added 21 additional pearls of wisdom, all of which I believe to be worthy of being shared with the neat folks who log on to vansopinion.com for words of wit and wisdom. Where she got this material I do not know but I'm rather sure the original author would be pleased to reach an expanded audience. Thanks Kim. Faithful readers - enjoy.

BUCKLE YOUR SEAT BELTS - I'M BACK
Other Stuff Last year it was six weeks on the other side of the globe, camping and generally goofing-off. This year it has been our kids and grand kids visiting from California and Ireland, several days camping with our Omaha grand kids, a family reunion and a 50th high school reunion. Oh yes, and an ill-fated political campaign. But, now I'm back and rearing to go. I have saved up a number of "opinions" which most certainly deserve public revelation. If anyone has the unmitigated gall to think his or her opinion would trump mine, send it along and I might put it on this now very well read web page. I should add, you do so at your own risk of being found to be intellectually challenged.

AN ANTI-HUNTER GETS IT WHERE IT HURTS
Other Stuff In today's world, its usually a lot easier to say "I'm sorry" than it is to get permission. Such is the case when dealing with most governmental bureaucracy. Here is just one example to vividly illustrate the point.

DADDY'S DAY AT SCHOOL
Other Stuff They say it takes a minute to find a special person, an hour to appreciate them, a day to love them, but then an entire life to forget them. This sterling bit of wisdom was furnished me by one of those dear people wanting me to send it to every one on my mailing list - something I just do not do! Some are so special, however, I suspect my readers might find them just about as "special" as I did this one. As a four-time "Dad" and five-time "Grandpa", I admonish each of you guys, particularly because of the way our lives have changed due to world situations, to make it a point to take a little extra time...to live and love those who now or at one time called you "Daddy."
