KATHY TAYLOR WILL BE THE NEXT MAYOR OF TULSA
Politics
After a week of taking steps to put vansopinion back on line after the site was hacked five times, we hope that my readers won’t be inconvenienced further. We strongly suspect that Congressman John Sullivan and his stooges are not happy with a previous story which predicted Kathy Taylor would oppose Bill LaFortune in the General mayoral election forthcoming. My predictions were so accurate, the Tulsa County Republican operatives are now experiencing anal isometrics (that’s where it puckers evenly all the way around}. And rightly so, let me tell you here, before you hear and read it in the media what the results of next weeks voting will be. Both John Sullivan and Jim Inhofe had better have nitroglycerine tablets handy if they choose to read further.

OUR POLITICAL PARTIES NEED A FEW WITH MARTIN LUTHER'S SPIRIT
Politics As I sat last Sunday listening to a young Pastor at my church give one of the very best Reformation Day sermons I have ever heard in my fifty-one years of being a Lutheran Christian, I pondered not only the goings on in the several Christian denominations today but also the applicability of the "Luther Spirit" to a revitalization of the basic tenets of our two major political parties. I will save my thoughts and opinions on the moral decay and hypocrisy in the church bodies of today for future writings, but for this epistle, I would like to turn thoughts to what has happened to the Democrat and Republican Political Parties and what might be done about it.

SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT
Politics For the information of the thousands who read vansopinion.com and the good folks with whom "ya'll" communicate, there are a few things about me my dedicated readers should know. I have received close to a hundred phone calls concerning several articles which I posted on my website recently. Since the questions arose from things which I have written, this seems like the most appropriate medium to "set the record straight." I have been and will continue to be critical of Congressman John Sullivan's (R-OK) conduct. Likewise, I believe Sullivan has been and will be an anchor on Tulsa Mayor Bill LaFortune's bid for re-election. Talk show "host" Michael Del Giorno who has a morning "show" on radio station KFAQ-AM in Tulsa has, in my less than humble opinion, chosen to use his time "on the air" to praise Sullivan and bash LaFortune unduly. I have had things to say on the subjects and will be saying a good deal more on them in the future.

HELP WANTED - MAYOR OF TULSA, OKLAHOMA
Politics If you have good interpersonal skills, are in no way connected with Congressman John Sullivan and are willing to change your name to "Undecided", you could very well become the next mayor of my home town - Tulsa, Oklahoma. In will be reported by the local media in a few days that the current mayor, Bill LaFortune, might be in trouble with the Republican folks who reside AND VOTE in the former Oil Capitol of the World.

POPPE - A POPULAR PASTOR WITH POLITICAL POTENTIAL
Politics I have been a confirmed member of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod for a bit more than a half-century. In that time, due to moving around the country and by choice, I have been a member of a number of churches of that denomination and thus have been associated with several Pastors. Without reservation or hesitation I can say the Rev. Clint Poppe, of Lincoln's Good Shepherd Lutheran Church - my current Pastor - has earned my respect and confidence more than any other before. He and I regularly discuss subjects of both theological and political substance and rarely disagree. Poppe has been elected to two political offices before moving to Lincoln. In my opinion, we might do well to consider tapping him for future public service.

A ''P.O.T.B.'' OR A ''K.I.T.A.'' FOR SENATOR CHUCK HAGEL
Politics A short time ago, Nebraska Senator Chuck Hagel made a early endorsement of Governor Dave Heineman's forthcoming bid to seek election to the seat to which he was elevated when former governor Mile Johanns resigned to accept the position of Secretary of Agriculture in Washington, D.C. I, like many, will be vigorously supporting Heineman's bid for election because I think he is probably the most qualified person to hold the position in the nearly four decades I have lived in the Cornhusker State. However, for me to make such a statement is one thing, but for Nebraska's senior Republican office holder to do so something else. Before I give the senator a verbal "K.I.T.A." (Kick in the Afterburner) there is more to the story you should know and I should consider.

DAVE HEINEMAN MADE THE RIGHT POLITICAL DECISION
Politics Before the filing period ended for those who desired to run for the seat being vacated by Congressman Doug Bereuter, I had a private meeting with then Governor Mike Johanns and made a suggestion which I felt was of great importance to Nebraska's future well-being. Whether or not Johanns became motivated to speak to Heineman on the matter afterwards I'll probably never know, but I do know the then lieutenant governor made a wise decision and stayed out of the congressional race. For that, we all should be grateful.

DONLAN, BOLES AND CARLSON, PUT-UP OR SHUT-UP
Politics At a monthly meeting of the Lincoln Independent Business Association (L.I.B.A.) four county commissioner candidates, two incumbents (both Republicans) and two challengers (both Democrats), addressed a large audience of local business movers and shakers. It was unfortunate, in my opinion, that both challengers used the event to take what I consider cheap shots at their opponents. Now, they should be held by the people to account, and to either "Put-up or shut-up."

JOHN F. KERRY - UNFIT FOR COMMAND
Politics One hundred and thirty-five officers and men who served or are still serving in the United States Navy endorsed a letter dated May 4, 2004 to Senator John Kerry, Democratic candidate for the office of President of the United States of America. The men, members of an organization known as "Swift Boat Veterans for Truth" respectful requested that the candidate formally release all of his military and medical records which, to date, he has refused to do. As a military retiree myself, I call upon all who wear or have ever worn the uniform of our country to read the book entitled, "Unfit for Command" authored by John E. O'Neill and Jerome R Corsi, PhD (ISBN 0-89526-017-4) You will conclude, as I have concluded, that John Kerry was, if not still is, a traitor, and truly is UNFIT FOR COMMAND!

BEREUTER ENDORSES DEMOCRAT KERRY
Politics My good friend, Alan Jacobsen wrote this "Guest Editorial" on 19 August 2004 and submitted it for publication. A number of the newspapers in Nebraska's First Congressional District are still sucking-up to retiring congressman Doug Bereuter and might not print Al's article as written, if at all. Since I totally agree with his conclusions, I am using this means to let you read what a "Republican at Heart" Democrat has to say. Alan is a Lincoln business owner and a former Lancaster County Republican Party chairman. He was the Democratic Party's nominee for Congress in 2000. Many of us wish he was our Republican candidate for congress this time. Give Alan a call at (402) 610-1188 and let him know your thoughts on this matter....and invite him back to the ranks of the G.O.P.
