CONGRESS SHOULD CLOBBER THE CARTELS

Every year during holiday seasons and at vacation time, our main sources of petroleum finds one reason or another to raise our gasoline prices at the pump. Why does congress let them do it? What, if anything, has Congressman Doug Bereuter done to stop it? Obviously little to nothing! If Bereuter's successor is anything but a "caretaker congressman" something can indeed be done. Take a look at the "Van Plan."
So long as we have influence with and some degree of power over the new incoming Iraqi government, we can suggest, nudge and even push, if necessary, to have that country resume oil production in substantial proportion. America is picking up the tab for ridding Iraq of its now powerless dictator. Iraq can pay the bill to rebuild the infrastructure and to assist in the building of new business and residential properties. Here's how it works.
We show the government of Iraq the advantages of resuming oil production to levels higher than ever before. Being involved in the "Cartel" is voluntary and there are no sanctions which can be levied against a country which does not go along with the price-fixing scheme. This will produce the much needed revenue for Iraq to build and rebuild itself and will do so without impacting upon the American taxpayers. Something else will occur. Something very American.....COMPETITION!
The end result of competition between the oil producing nations will be seen in the lowering and the holding down of gasoline prices at the pump.........that is, if we don't tax the devil out of every gallon to underwrite all sorts of "do-gooder" programs.
At the same time, we must develop our sources of petroleum such as Cameroon and the Alaska fields. Concurrently, we need to work hard to bring on line bio-diesel, gasohol and other renewable energy sources.
The "Van Plan" is "do-able" and with Van (that's me) in congress, working with my friends who are already there, we will make that plan a high priority project
Since the other oil producing nations are by nature greedy and protective of their markets, they will all commence to produce to preserve outlets for their production.
