A COMPELLING COMMENCEMENT SPEECH FOR ALL COLLEGE GRADUATES
Free speech is meant to protect unpopular speech. Popular speech, by definition, needs no protection. This message is wonderful since it conveys the cold, cold wind of reality. Neal Boortz is a Texan, a lawyer, a Texas Aggie (Texas A&M), and now a nationally syndicated talk show host from Atlanta . His commencement address to the graduates of a recent Texas A&M class is far different from what either the students or the faculty expected. His views are thought provoking. This was sent to me by a dear friend of many years probably (many thanks Margaret) because she knows it is the kind of message I think all graduates should hear.

GREAT GENERALS AND WARRIOR LEADERS CHANGE THE TIDE OF WAR AND BATTLE
As stated in other articles, I receive a great number of articles which are on points to which I subscribe, however, only very few are chosen to re-print verbatim in this blog. This title article is introduced by a retired Air Force General and is written by a retired U.S. Army General. While on active duty, it was said of me, "Van is his name, Tactics is his game." Thus as a retired senior ranked U.S. Army Officer myself, I carefully screen military articles. The writings of these two generals, I believe are "right on" with respect to a plan for the prosecution of our ongoing efforts in both Iraq and Afghanistan. Read on and see if you agree. And now, the words of BG Jim Cash.

ONE NATION UNDER GOD - LAUS DEO
I receive a number of very good writings every week from people who seem to think like I think and share the same beliefs and opinions on many subjects with me. The folks who shout "Separation of Church and State" usually know so little of what is contained in the Constitution of the United States of America their rattling brings to mind the words of William Shakespeare in one of his writings - "A poor player struts and frets his hour upon the stage and then is heard no more. ‘Tis the tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury signifying nothing." This story makes a couple of very important points which I hope every adult and every child in school learns. I chose not to "send it to everyone on my mailing list", but rather, to print it here. Take the time to discuss the contents with your children, you Pastor or Priest and with those we send to Washington, D.C. to represent us. The strength of our country stems from the fact, we are indeed, "One Nation Under God." LAUS DEO!

WHY I CONTINUE TO WORK TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Sooner or later, we all come to the dawning realization we live in a world where all things in our lives are affected, for better or for worse, by the people who are elected to "serve" in various offices through their actions or inactions. One way or another, directly or indirectly, eventually those who seek and win public office habitually want to change things. As voter apathy grows and fewer folks involve themselves in the political process, as fewer and fewer percentages of the population eligible to vote actually do, little do they know that danger lurks just around the corner. Could the horrors of Nazi concentrations camps under Hitler and even greater mass murders under the communist regime of Stalin happen again, I suggest a scary answer - YES.

GIVE A GIFT TO THOSE WHO SERVE
While I don't forward chain letters or pass on things which I receive in my e-mail box, there are some articles which I feel are important enough to share with the thousands of folks who read what I post. This is one of those. Being an "old soldier" myself, I have a favor to ask. After you have read this entire article, please stop for a moment and say a prayer for our troops wherever they may be. Of all the gifts you could give a U.S. Soldier, Sailor, Coastguardsman, Marine or Airman, prayer is the very best one.

JUDGE YOUNG GIVES WOULD BE SHOE BOMBER THE BOOT
Remember Richard Reid, the guy who got on a plane with a bomb built into his shoe and tried to light it? Did you know his trial is over? Did you know he was sentenced? Did you see or hear any of the judge's comments on TV or Radio? The judge's speech, after sentencing is great. I don't recall any follow up by the press, but it might have happened. A high school classmate of mine over 50 years ago, Wayland Gandall, sent me this one. See if you would join with a couple of solid patriotic gaffers like the two of us in praising the presiding judge in the case. Read on!

THE FRENCH - WHO NEEDS ‘EM
This poem was sent me by an old friend and high school classmate. It was written by an American Patriot and contains the thoughts and feelings most of us have, particularly those who have served in our country's military, about France and its double-dealing cowardly leadership who have many times over failed to remember that the United States of America saved their fannies from total defeat. Thanks Wayland for your contribution. Here it is.

SILENCE IS NOT GOLDEN - IT IS YELLOW
It was reported to me that a few days ago in our nation's capitol, U.S. Senator Zell Miller (D-GA) delivered a statement on the floor of the United States Senate addressing several social issues facing the country. While I have not verified whether or not the senator's statement is in the Congressional Record in the form I'm sharing with you, I believe Senator Miller's rock-solid Americanism is reflected in the words attributed to him notwithstanding. Wouldn't it make all of us feel good if U.S. Senator Chuck Hagel (R-NE) would make such a statement?

THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS
As we ponder memories of loved ones being gone during the Christmas Season during this and other wars before, we once again experience and appreciate the loneliness caused by that separation. The poem furnished to me came without any clue as to its author, but I would be remiss not to share it with you. If anyone knows who wrote these moving lines, please let me know so credit can be given were credit is due. The loneliness we all experience from time to time is made bearable knowing that the One whose birth we celebrate, is with us always - we never walk alone!

UNITED STATES OF AMERICA - ONE NATION UNDER GOD!
There are a few things which are not presented in classrooms across our land since we now place more emphasis on political correctness than on Americanism. Our country was not founded on Judeo-Christian principles, it was founded as a Christian nation with tolerance toward all religions! Those who would argue the point - EVEN JUSTICES OF THE SUPREME COURT - just haven't read enough of our country's history. Read on.
