When Doug Bereuter, incumbent congressman decided to retire from congress and go to work for the Chinese, a meeting was held where Governor Mike Johanns, State G.O.P. Chairman David Kramer and Nebraska Republican Committeeman Duane Acklie pleaded with him not to be involved in the Republican Primary. After a quarter of a century in office, like so many other times, he ignored wise counsel and endorsed Curt Bromm. Now he's bellowing like a stubborn jackass when his plan to rig the election for his personally chosen successor is getting derailed

There are a number of things about the Bereuter attack which are laughable.

First, Doug had no problems taking our money for a quarter of a century and then allowed himself to BE BOUGHT by a foreign government.

Second, his endorsement of Curt Bromm clearly indicated he did not want anyone to replace him who would actively and vigorously represent the 1st District of Nebraska in a way that might overshadow his own lack-luster performance for the last 25 years.

Third, Doug Bereuter has used his influence with the National Republican Congressional Committee (which resides on the 2nd floor of the RNC) to give "backdoor" political assistance through a political consulting group - Greener and Hook - to his chosen one.

Doug Bereuter griping about any group who wants to derail his attempt to rig the Republican Primary is a little like the "kettle calling the pot black."

Bereuter's ex-staffer Mary Johnson, working hand in hand with Doug's Washington staff are busting their fannies to get Curt (who is actually a really nice guy) elected by and through whatever means possible.

Johnson, on behalf of Bromm has authorized two push-polls which have not had the desired results.

Note that neither Bromm nor Ruehle have released any poll figures relating to the standing of candidates in the race.

One poll showed that neither of them or Fortenberry could beat Matt Connealy in the General Election. The only Republican who could beat Connealy is the one who is posting this bit of enlightenment.

Ask anyone who has ever attended any one of the candidates' forums who walked away with the support of the crown. None of the so-called top three.

Check out www.vansopinion.com in the days to come to get some real eye-openers about the candidates and their races, then make up your own mind as to who can and will represent the people of Nebraska in the Congress and who can work with members from "both sides of the isle" to get things done.
