NEBRASKA HAS THE BEST LEGISLATURE MONEY CAN BUY
Politics I have been actively involved in legislative campaigns for over four decades and can speak from personal knowledge on the information presented in this article.  Money has always played a significant role in political campaigns, however, the role of lobbyists has changed, and not for the better. There are two time worn adages which apply as much if not more so today than in days gone buy.  Those are, “To get along, you must go along” and “A legislator ‘lives’ on the Bills that he passes.”  The purpose of this writing is to present facts and the readers can be the judges. It is not my purpose to point an accusing finger at any one of the forty-nine Members of the Nebraska Legislature in particular, with one exception, but rather to inform voters of the role money plays in campaigns.

VAN CALLS FOR FLUSHING THE GOP CONSPIRACY COMMODE
Politics On Tuesday, 7 August 2018 the Lincoln JournalStar newspaper published a letter to the editor which I submitted.  In case you missed it, I’ll post it here below for your information.  It was entitled “Term limit push is corrupt proposal.”  For the record, the thoughts contained in the letter were similar to those later expressed by the newspaper and still later by the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce. While it was not mentioned in the article, J.L. Spray, a Lincoln attorney, is the current Nebraska National Republican Committeeman.  Immediately following the publication of the letter, Spray engaged in politically blatant reprisal against me and my campaign for a seat in the Nebraska Legislature. Read to the end and you will learn the risk one takes in Nebraska when one stands up for what is right and puts principles and the public before partisan politics.

VAN VALKENBURG SAYS HANSEN SHOULD BE HONEST AND WITHDRAW
Politics This document was originally emailed to the media as a “News Release” shortly after I filed a Petition for a Writ of Mandamus in Lancaster County District Court. I was informed by Darlene Starman (Governor Pete Ricketts Lancaster County Re-election Committee Chair), and a well known Republican operative, that nothing I send to the Lincoln JournalStar newspaper would be used or printed since I “was no longer believable.” While Shelly Kulhanek has denied the accuracy of Starman’s claim, she later informed me after receiving this release that “we are not going to use what you send and engage in a back and forth between you and Matt Hansen.”  It is a fact, Lincoln attorney and Nebraska National Republican Party Committeeman J.L. Spray has had enough political clout in the past to mislead an assistant Lancaster County Attorney, the Lancaster County Assessor and two members of the Lancaster County Board on matters relating to property tax exemptions Therefore, it should be obvious he has enough “political horsepower” to shut down my media exposure.  Just as he is attempting to screw the people out of a chance to vote their preference in the next mayoral election, there is little doubt he can and is bushwhacking my legislative campaign.

SENATOR MATT HANSENíS NAME SHOULD NOT BE ON THE BALLOT

Ignorance of the law is no excuse. the simple concept law students learn very early in their criminal law class simply means that when a person violates the law, it doesn’t matter whether or not he or she knew what the law said, it is a crime and if the person is found guilty of the elements of that crime, the person is guilty. Let’s plug that concept into the laws, rules and regulations governing filing for office in Nebraska.  It is an easy step to rightly conclude that Ignorance of a lawyer, however, can be an excuse for ignoring a critical filing requirement to have one’s name put on a ballot....if one is a lawyer.

A CHURCH, A CHAIR, A BOY AND A PRAYER
News and Views There comes a time in life when one is moved to reflect upon major events in his or her life as old friends, relatives, family members “cash in their chips” and depart the game of life. As the days, months and years come and go, the hectic responsibilities of life take the greater majority of a persons time to give much thought to details of a full Christian life being lived.  When the Lord has given a person four score and more years of life, each remaining day becomes more precious.  And so it is, as I take time to reflect on a most important event in my own life.  How, where and when I became fully aware of the price my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ paid for my sins, past, present and future as well as those of each and every one of us and of His assurance of life everlasting guaranteed through Faith in the Grace of The Man born in Bethlehem.

WHEN THE CALL TO DUTY TOUCHES TOO CLOSE TO HOME
News and Views I wrote this article for the “Nebraska Fraternal Order of Police Journal, Vol. 4, No. 1, Winter 1985-86 edition which was at a time when the “farm and ranch” crisis was placing law enforcement officers in very trying and even dangerous conditions.  It was a tribute to those men and women in uniform and its message is still appropriate

YOUNG PEOPLE'S BILL OF RESPONSIBILITIES
News and Views
The following was taken from a very old newspaper clipping which has been passed around in my family for many years. Parents and concerned citizens need to put a stop to liberal educators and "left leaning" social scientists using our children as laboratory subjects for their own personal experimentation. I strongly believe the faculty and administrators of our schools should take a hard look at what worked in the past and apply such in the future. If anyone can supply me with the identity of the author of this article, I’ll make sure proper attributions are later given. Here it is.

A COMPELLING COMMENCEMENT SPEECH FOR ALL COLLEGE GRADUATES
Patriotism
Free speech is meant to protect unpopular speech. Popular speech, by definition, needs no protection. This message is wonderful since it conveys the cold, cold wind of reality. Neal Boortz is a Texan, a lawyer, a Texas Aggie (Texas A&M), and now a nationally syndicated talk show host from Atlanta . His commencement address to the graduates of a recent Texas A&M class is far different from what either the students or the faculty expected. His views are thought provoking. This was sent to me by a dear friend of many years probably (many thanks Margaret) because she knows it is the kind of message I think all graduates should hear.
